INTRODUCTION
What Is Spatial Inequality?
Spatial Inequality is a major geological issue that's affecting the whole world, including Australia. Spatial Inequality can be defined as the uneven distribution resources and different standard of living. For example, one area may have access to healthcare or clean water whereas another area doesn't.
Spatial inequality can happen in a country, within a state, within a city, as well as between rural and urban areas.Other problems which are also part of Spatial Inequality include income difference, education, indigenous and non-indigenous and unemployment. Spatial Inequality can be caused by a number of different things such as globalization and work issues.
Why is it a problem?
Australia has been known as one of the best countries in the world with a very good economy but Spatial Inequality is an issue which is getting worse and could possibly cause a lot of problems in the future. As Australia's population increases.......the problem of Spatial Inequality could be worse because there would be more discrimination and the amount of inequality between rich and poor will rise. Spatial Inequality is a problem because different areas have an unequal amount of services (eg. public transport),Aboriginals don't have equal amounts of access to goods or services compared to non-aboriginals or women don't have equal 'rights' compared to men etc.
Where Does it Occur In Australia?
Spatial inequality occurs everywhere but it is more obvious in NSW (New South Wales). Sydney has the highest amount of poverty in Australia The average number of people who in relative poverty in Australia is 12.4% while in Sydney it is 14.3%. The main reasons were that in NSW there are less job opportunities and higher costs for houses. Other areas in Australia where this issue also occurs a lot is in Western Australia (WA).
